Still need a bit more inspiration? Or want to get a glimpse of everyday life on the trail? Thankfully there are many hikers who have recorded and shared their experiences in blogs or videos online. We’ve picked out some of the best ones for you.
Lisa Germany
Lisa Germany is the trekking-mad writer and photographer who is responsible for providing much of the text and visual content for our Arctic Circle Trail powerpage. Her ACT blog is incredibly detailed and practical and broken down into daily instalments on the route from Kangerlussuaq to Sisimiut.
Matt Karsten
Matt Karsten (a.k.a. Expert Vagabond) has been a full-time travel blogger and photographer for the last nine years. He completed the Arctic Circle Trail in summer 2015 and crafted his experience into a snappy video as well as a few detailed blog instalments.
Peter Elia
Peter Elia, or ‘The Man Who Hiked The World’, seeks out hikes in less travelled and remote areas. He turned his summer 2016 Arctic Circle Trail hike into a comprehensive and very amusing video diary which is definitely worth a watch.
Bo Normander
Bo Normander is an environmental researcher and a nature photographer and writer. His website, Greenlandic Seasons, promotes his book, of the same name, which explores the diversity of nature and climate in the Disko Bay Area. His website also features a written account of his experience on the Arctic Circle Trail.
Kevin Rosenberg
Kevin Rosenberg runs International Adventure Guides, a veteran-run business that focuses on small group adventures to unique destinations. His adventure on the Arctic Circle Trail in 2014 is recorded on his website in a daily blog.
Chris Marshall-Bell
Sports journalist Chris Marshall-Bell tackled the Arctic Circle Trail with a couple of friends in 2017. His guest post on the Wired for Adventure website is an entertaining account of their walk in the ‘other direction’, from Sisimiut to Kangerlussuaq, with a healthy dose of practical information thrown in.
Phoebe Smith
Phoebe Smith is the editor-at-large of the online travel magazine, Wanderlust, a comprehensive online network of all things travel. Her piece on her Arctic Circle Trail adventure is descriptive and immersive.
LUCY FUGGLE
Lucy Fuggle is a writer and adventurer who runs a consulting business while travelling to remote places. We love her blog about things she wishes she knew before hiking the ACT, inspired by her hike in 2019.
Peter Watson
Peter Watson is a photographer and co-founder of Atlas & Boots, an outdoor travel blog. He trekked the ACT in August 2019 and has written a useful FAQ-style article based on his experience.
Maximilian Finger
Max is a German outdoor blogger of wander.max, a hiking blog focused on famous treks around the world and hikes in the Alps. His Arctic Circle Trail Trek took place in 2018, but he published his adventure with the latest information in January 2023.
