What to bring? A Checklist for Hiking in Greenland

Get an overview of what's good to pack for your hike.

In the following, you will find a checklist that suggests what to bring for a one-week hike. You can vary the list depending on what needs you might have.

Pack the backpack in a practical manner by placing the things you use daily on the top. Heavy items should be placed near the body and in the top part of the “sack”; this will secure a good weight distribution.

Sharp items such as cookware should be wrapped in clothes.

Use the packing list! On the left side of the list, the weight in kilos is given. Try weighing the gear you want to bring before going on your trip. Then you know how much it weighs and can estimate the volume of your baggage. It is then easier to decide what to bring or not.

Use the packing list! On the left side of the list, the weight in kilos is given. Try weighing the gear you want to bring before going on your trip. Then you know how much it weighs and can estimate the volume of your baggage, which makes it easier to decide what to bring or not.

GOOD TO REMEMBER:

For safety reasons, make sure – before you go in the mountains – to inform the tourist office about your planned route. This way, in the case of an emergency,  they know where you are. This is important as the locals know the area and the rescue services best. Trust their advice.

What else to bring?

First aid kit with medicine Blister, sunscreen, and emergency rockets as well as a whistle, knife, Astro / rescue blanket, toilet paper, and sewing gear are mandatory. Mosquito nets and mosquito repellant. A notebook and pencil for a diary can be useful. steel wire and a small pair of pliers will come in handy for repairs. A nylon rope as a lifeline when wading is also a good idea. A pair of binoculars is nice but not necessary and a mobile phone is good if the battery will last throughout. Also, take a fishing tackle if your planned route allows you to fish along the way.

All these items are also listed in our packing list above.
