Seeing the massive icebergs splitting off from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier will take your breath away.
The glacier is one of the world’s fastest and most productive glaciers. You will sometimes see small boats making their way to and from the Icefjord, fishing for halibut which is a popular and sought-after fish.
You will be able to see at firsthand how the locals fish using small boats.

Whale watching in Ilulissat and Oqaatsut
North Greenland Adventure will take you to the area north of the settlement of Oqaatsut to go seal and whale watching.
On the way, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in a warm blanket and enjoy the view of enormous icebergs that come in all shapes, sizes and colours.
If the skipper catches a seal, he will bring it back so that you can taste it. Prepare to see fin whales, humpback whales, Greenland whales and minke whales.
Boat trips in Ilulissat
Explore Greenland by sea. You can, for example, go on a one-day or evening trip on the Icefjord and get right up close to some gigantic icebergs that are found in all sorts of shapes and colors.
The evening trip, in particular, offers you an unforgettable experience, when the evening sun bathes the icebergs in warm and lustrous hues.
Take the trip from Ilulissat to Oqaatsut and back, and take a closer look at the settlement which has fewer than 50 inhabitants.

Hiking in Ilulissat and Oqaatsut
The wilderness is synonymous with silence and wide open spaces. North Greenland Adventure can offer you a selection of exciting routes.
Pack your rucksack, put on your hiking boots and enjoy the beautiful hike from Ilulissat to the settlement of Oqaatsut. The route is 21 kilometres long and is clearly marked.
For experienced hikers, the walk takes about four hours, and for less experienced it will take seven to eight hours. On the way, you will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy a picnic with a view that will take your breath away.
There are about 60 cabins on the route owned by the locals who are often on site and no doubt keen to have a chat with you.
Kayaking in Oqaatsut
The sea at Oqaatsut is wonderful with spectacular views.The settlement nestles by the bay overlooking a seascape of icebergs. Remember to bring warm clothing and a packed lunch.
We recommend that more experienced walkers go on a hike lasting a week or more to Ataa Sund or Eqi or around Arveprinsens Eilande. The more experienced can hike all the way to Uummannaq.
This is an extraordinarily picturesque route and the natural surroundings are unforgettable.

Sea fishing in Oqaatsut
If you want to experienceGreenland’s natural surroundings equipped with a fishing rod, North Greenland Adventure offers a wealth of opportunities.
Why not try catching a halibut or cod from the deck of a boat? You can look forward to seeing some enormous icebergs and enjoying a bottle of chilled white wine.
We recommend some extreme fishing for the more adventurous anglers. The fishing is done using long lines that are sunk through holes in the ice – and you will be catching shark and halibut.
Getting to know the locals in Oqaatsut
In Greenland kaffemik is a social tradition in which the Greenlanders take pride.
When the coffee is ready, a kaffemik promises some good conversations and stories about life in the far north. Hotel Nordlys invites you to join a kaffemik out on the terrace.
You will hear some lively stories and anecdotes.
The event is held every day between 3:30 pm and 5:00 pm. You will be offered coffee, cakes and other refreshments. Locals also like to meet up and chat about anything and everything.
Greenlandic gastronomy in Oqaatsut
Enjoy Greenlandic specialities in Oqaatsut’s little gourmet restaurant, H8.
The gastronomic experience scales new heights when the charm of the restaurant and the beautiful landscape combine with the flavours of fish and local meat.
Come along to one of the restaurant’s themed evenings, barbecues with grilled lamb and seafood days with freshly caught crab and fine wines.
The festivities carry on later in the evening at Hotel Nordlys, where the host will invite you to a Greenlandic polka.
Skiing in Oqaatsut
Strap on your skis and head off into a winter wonderland at a pace that is just right for you. You decide where you want to go, when to have coffee and when to have a rest. North Greenland Adventure will provide the necessary equipment – skis and boots – and has plenty of suggestions on the best places to go in the area.
For example, you might want to go on a 3-hour trip on the sea ice from the settlement to Kuuttaaq and back again.
Wanna catch fat and delicious trouts? Head with us to the bottom of the Kangersuneq-fjord, which is located approximately 4 km. east to the settlement.

The inhabitants of Oqaatsut will dance with you as you’ll learn to dance the traditional Greenlandic polka. Experience storytelling with drumsong of old Greenlandic myths and legends.
The tour starts at Ilulissat Airport, and there will be camping chairs, coffee, tea and cake onboard the helicopter. The helicopter lands in the most beautiful and isolated areas, that cannot be reached in any other way.
