RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR A SUSTAINABLE VISIT
to UNESCO SITES

Larger groups of visitors should be accompanied by a qualified guide and stay on the designated path to avoid trampling the vegetation.

Stay at least 2 meters (6 feet) from the edge of ruins and never walk, sit, climb or stand on the walls of the church or any other ruins at Qaqortukulooq.

Do not litter and take all rubbish with you when you leave. Do not use the site as a toilet.

Never pick up or move objects at the site. This includes stones, bones, plants and flowers. Leave everything undisturbed and never build cairns or stack stones at the site or anywhere else in Greenland.

The area is still used for grazing by local sheep farmers. Do not approach the sheep or try to feed them.

CRUISE SHIP LANDINGS ON THE BEACH AND ALONG THE SHORE AT QASSIARSUK IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED. ALL TENDER BOATS AND ZODIACS MUST LAND AND DISEMBARK PASSENGERS AT THE PIER.

Do not approach or pet animals. This includes sheep, horses, cattle, cats, chickens and dogs. Sheep dogs are working animals and interacting with these animals can change their behavior and may result in them being put down.

Never enter houses without consent from the owners, this includes houses that look uninhabited.

Never take photos of indigenous and local people, houses or animals without permission.

There are no banks or ATMs at Qassiarsuk. Plan ahead and bring local currency (Danish kroner).

When passing through town, keep to the side of the road and do not block traffic.

Close to the Icefjord Centre you will pass through an area where sled dogs are kept. These are working animals and can be unpredictable. Never approach, pet or try to feed the dogs.

On the way to Sermermiut do not step off the boardwalk and always keep to the officially marked paths.

If you identify an artefact or ancient human remains outside a grave please immediately report the situation to the UNESCO Park Ranger or Local Museum.
