NUUK ART MUSEUM

Nuuk Art Museum opened in 2005 in the former Adventist Church at Kissarnerqqortuunnguaq in Nuuk.

The museum consists of an impressivecollection of Greenlandic art and crafts from the beginning of the 20th century with approximately 300 paintings and 400 greenlandic figurines.

The museum has two sections consisting of the museum’s own paintings and a new extension to the building with a large exhibition room which houses temporary exhibitions from Greenlandic artists as well as artists from around the world.

The museum is a gift from the deceased Svend Junge and his wife Helene to the town of Nuuk. The museum is characterized by the fact that the art exhibited is a private family’s collection – the close-hanging paintings and the small corners in the building carries a homely atmosphere.

In the museum’s permanent exhibition, one can experience both older and more modern art – paintings painted of Greenland, in Greenland or by Greenlanders – with love for natural romanticism (J.E.C. Rasmussen and Emanuel A. Petersen), but the collection also consists of Greenlandic artists such as Anne-Birthe Hove (1951-2012), Buuti Pedersen (1955), Frederik Kunnngi Kristensen (1952), Miki Jakobsen (1965) and many more – as well as craft art with all possible expressions.

The personnel at Nuuk Art Museum are always ready to answer questions. If you do not have the ability to visit the museum during opening hours, it is possible to arrange an extra opening. Contact: Kunstmuseum@sermersooq.gl or (+299) 327733 / (+299) 547595. This is also true if you wish to visit Niels Lynges Hus on Gertrud Raskvej 24.
