Sabina and Markus have known each since they were very young. Their paths have crossed but they were never single at the same time. Markus is a sweet but also shy guy and didn’t have the courage to make the first move. Finally some years ago they got together. But it took a journey across the Arctic and a near death experience for Markus to pop the question.
Markus has always dreamt about flying on his own small microlight airplane across the Atlantic Ocean from Germany to America. In the summer of 2016 he started out his dream of a life time and left Germany with a perfectly set plan. Just after 5 days he made his planned stop in Sisimiut just 180 nautical miles from the Coastline of Canada. The weather had changed from beautiful calm Arctic summer weather to stormy weather and the forecast for Canada the next few weeks were very alarming. Markus decided to return to home.
The weather back to Germany was a nightmare. During the 4 weeks it took Markus to fly back to Germany, he had oceans of time to think about his life. Maybe the dream of his life was not crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Sabina was the dream of his life.
Back in Germany Sabina waited anxiously for the small airplane. On August 4th 2016 the relief was enormous when the just 470 kg microlight airplane with Markus landed safely. Markus stepped out of the plan and at the first glimpse of Sabine he fell on his knees and asked her to marry him.
Precisely one year later Sabina and Markus are back in Sisimiut. They visit the places Markus has seen and Sabine just heard about. And on a sunny August 4th 2017 Sabina and Markus got married in the small romantic settlement a few miles from Sisimiut surrounded by their new friends.
As a memory of the beauty of life and an eternal promise to each other the engraving in the rings says Asavakkit which is Greenlandic for “I love you”.
