Fjords give you endless opportunities of experiencing wild nature just the way you like it, no matter if you prefer calm cruising, adrenaline-pumped skiing, easy hikes to strenuous ones, or kayaking in flat-as-pancakes seas.
And with that in mind there is no such place as the ultimate fjord in the world because people have different preferences and tastes. This does not keep us from predicting that among the following northern hemisphere fjords there should certainly be exactly your kind of fjord.
So from the fjord-loving editorial staff of greenland.com we give you our top 5 country & fjord list of the best and most beautiful fjords and fjord areas which you may not have visited yet – but should.

Gros Morne National Park, NFL
“Soaring fjords and moody mountains tower above a diverse panorama of beaches and bogs, forests and barren cliffs. Shaped by colliding continents and grinding glaciers, Gros Morne’s ancient landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander coastal pathways and beachcomb among sea stacks. Cruise the dramatic, sheer-walled gorge of Western Brook Pond. Spot moose and caribou. Hike to alpine highlands where Arctic hare and ptarmigan thrive on tundra, and explore the colourful culture of nearby seaside villages.”

Tasermiut Fjord
Among climbers, Tasermiut is famed for its granite rock cliffs, which draw adrenaline-seeking climbers from all over the world, but for people who like moving in a horizontal direction rather than vertical, the Tasermiut Fjord is probably the most beautiful of its kind in Greenland. The fjord stretches 70 kilometres not far from the southernmost town of Greenland, Nanortalik, and ends where the massive Ice Sheet of the world’s biggest island begins. The fjord is an ideal place to trek, kayak, go river fishing, or sail in a small boat or with one of the rarely visiting cruise ships that go there.
Landscape photographer Alex Nail went there last year, and see here how he nailed a two-week experience of visiting the place.

Westfjords
“A third of Iceland’s coastline is in the Westfjords. Come to think of it, it is not surprising, as the entire peninsula is carved and cut by long fjords. The shore offers a wealth of attractions, most of which cost nothing to enjoy. Nature rules the Westfjords. Sure, humans have built their settlements here and there, but this remains a wild, untamed landscape. But it’s also a landscape that enjoys being discovered and enjoyed.”
