Come and visit Sisimiut in April and enjoy dogsledding, Arctic Sounds, and Arctic Spa that you have been longing for.
What does April look like in your country? Do you have any plans for the Easter holiday? Let me guess. You might be planning to go out and have a picnic under the fully bloomed white and pink cherry blossom. The light breeze might carry sweet scents of flowers and people’s clothing gets lighter. So, it’s the perfect time to enjoy the so-called ‘spring’.
But what about Greenland? Around that time, we are still surrounded by the winter ambience and white snow. The local people in North Greenland use dog sleds and snowmobiles, and young people and children enjoy skiing and snowboarding. Yes, in Greenland, we are still in the middle of winter in April.
It means if you come to Greenland in April, you do not need to wait until the next winter to fulfil your winter wishes. April is not too late or too early to make them happen, and it is because Greenland will extend winter a bit longer for you.
So, what can you experience in April in Greenland? I have four suggestions for you, especially in Sisimiut.
1. Do you have dog sledding or snowmobiling on your bucket list?
- If you’ve imagined yourself on a dog sled,
In Sisimiut, there is a UFO-shaped shelter where you can only get to by dog sled (FYI, during the summertime, you can hike to get there).
- If you’ve imagined yourself on a snowmobile,
You can go on a tour with an experienced guide on a snowmobile and travel around snow-covered hills, mountains and the frozen sea in the Kangerluarsuk Tulleq fjord.
You can also make a short visit to a triangle-shaped toilet on the top of a hill, not only because of the toilet but also to enjoy amazing views!
2. Are you a fan of music festivals?
- In April, you can mix your trip with Arctic Sounds, a music festival in Sisimiut, to enjoy different and unique music.
3. Relax in Arctic spa
After a full day at the Arctic Sounds festival, dogsledding or snowmobiling, you can relax in the spa. You will never be able to find a better place to end your day just before going to bed.
We look forward to seeing you in Sisimiut in April, where winter still awaits you.
