Each year an entire month is dedicated to sport events in Greenland, which are free of charge. Better known as ‘Maaji Nuan’ in Nuuk - the sport event takes place in several other towns in Greenland under different names, where they, just as in Nuuk, offer free sport activities to everyone. ‘Maaji Nuan!’ means ‘lovely May’ in Greenlandic and indeed it is a lovely month. Maaji Nuan!’s main focus is to strengthen the unity of the local community. There are plenty of activities throughout the month. The activities spands from running on the landing strip in the airport, free fitness training, triathlon to soccer tournaments for the homeless and training in traditional Greenlandic polka dancing. Watch a snippet from a previous Maaji Nuan! down below.
